On March 17, 2024, Pamela (Pam) Bergez of Spring, Texas passed away at the age of 60, succumbing to complications following a three-year struggle with oral cancer.

Following high school graduation in 1981, Pam accompanied her family to Israel, where Pam found work as a nurse’s aide in Bethlehem and eventually as a social worker in Jerusalem. There, she worked at a community center and visited shut-ins, deeply loving the work and the people to whose varied needs she ministered. In 1985 she met Ron Bergez, who had gone to Jerusalem for a mission project and became literally “the boy next door.” They wed in 1986, returning to live in the Los Angeles area for twelve years, where they were blessed with four children. They subsequently moved to the Phoenix environs and from there to Texas in 2015. Pam served the educational needs of families in each place, as a school aide and private children’s drama company co-director, then school office assistant, and finally as the office manager in two highly regarded Texas charter schools. Her battle with cancer from 2021 onward did not overcome her drive to help families, who reciprocated with respect and affection her deep love for both students and families, until she was no longer physically able to continue her duties midway into the 2023-24 school year.

Whether working in schools or sharing life with family and friends, Pam was a consummate “people person.” She maintained close ties with friends from Jersey Village High School, where she spent her ninth and tenth grade years, enjoying her role as a member of the “Gold Duster” drill team. The Bergez home in Irving, TX was the scene of frequent back-patio evenings with schoolteachers decompressing on a Friday evening with games and laughter. Discovering the joy of jet-skiing in Texas, she was a fearsome force to behold on the water. But above all, her greatest joy was time spent with her children and a growing number of grandchildren (“Mammo” to them) who deeply loved her in turn. Her affection was tireless until the very end, and her final week with us saw visitors - extended family and school colleagues alike - at the house each day, coming to enjoy her life-affirming company and easing her trial with love and affection.

Pam is survived by her father Theodore (Ted) Vallery and mother Mary Jo Cullen; her husband Ron; her brothers Theodore (Teddy) and Brett Vallery; their four children Veronica, Raymond, Vallery, and Victoria; eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing and rosary will be held on Sunday March 24 th at Rosewood Funeral Home on South Houston Avenue in Humble, from 1 to 4 pm with a vigil service and rosary that will begin at 3PM, and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday March 25 th at Saint Mary Magdalene Church, South Houston Road, Humble.
